The release train contains a spring-cloud-dependencies as well as the spring-cloud-starter-parent. You can use the parent as you would the spring-boot-starter-parent (if you are using Maven). If you only need dependency management, the "dependencies" version is a BOM-only version of the same thing (it just contains dependency management and no plugin declarations or direct references to Spring or Spring Boot). If you are using the Spring Boot parent POM, then you can use the BOM from Spring Cloud. The opposite is not true: using the Cloud parent makes it impossible, or at least unreliable, to also use the Boot BOM to change the version of Spring Boot and its dependencies.

Just like Spring Boot, many Spring Cloud projects include starters that you can add as dependencies to add various cloud native features to your project. In many cases, many features are enabled purely by adding the starter to your classpath. The starter names are documented within the individual projects. Below is an example of how you would add a Spring Cloud Config Client and a Spring Cloud Netflix Eureka client to your application.

Yes I agree. Only Windows 7 starter on netbooks. Who are we kidding. Of course Microsoft could afford to put Windows 7 Home Premium on netbooks. Afterall if Microsoft had their way about things we would have to pay a yearly fee for whatever OS we had. Bullies!

I for 1 thing defenitely would not buy a netbook with windows 7 starter edition. I will rather they have windows XP installed, or at the least windows 7 home premium. what a waste of time & resources to have a starter edition. The borg wouldnt know real crap until they assimilated the starter edition

I think netbook manufacturers will put tremendous pressure on Microsoft to come up with a better solution. No one wants a crippled OS, and $100 for an OS is too high on a netbook. Either Microsoft will relax its limitations for the starter edition, or they will lower the price of home premium. If not, the door is WIDE OPEN for linux to make a come back on netbooks. It would be a perfect opportunity for Google to release the desktop OS they are said to be working on.

If you can somehow make the laptop BIOS handshake with windows 7, sure. But it can be very convoluted and imo with the lack of power of that chromebook, Linux would be a better suit if you need another OS in it.

Running light benchmarks, there are very insignificant performance benefits when it comes to processor-heavy tasks, such as copying files or converting video files. The factor making a dramatic difference is how Windows manages memory. In older versions of Windows, every application you have open sucks up video memory, even if the windows are minimized. This isn't the case in Windows 7: The only windows and apps using video memory are those visible on your screen. Indeed, that big tweak amounts to a faster, snappier computing experience. It's one of those improvements that can't be articulated by numbers; you have to put Windows 7 on your machine to believe it.

The 2.5 x 1.4-inch touchpad is around the same size as other N series netbooks, but it feels cramped. That's because the default settings for the scrolling areas on the pad take up more area than necessary, and we constantly found ourselves accidentally scrolling or jumping to different places in browser or word processor windows.
